Mysticism is the study of the pursuit of union with the divine through love. It teaches the ways and means which enable a lover of God to realize and know about the unknown. It is the love of God and His creations. All mystics believe in earning this union with the transcendental. The mystic way to realize the union of love with God is charity, love, hope, penance or the asceticism of mortification. Though this process of mortifying the passions is considered by some mystics as a fruitful method of defeating what is called the lust within or the kicking of the flesh against the spirit but also as one of the main sources of the mystic's discipline, it is seen by other mystics as the most excessive aspect of mystical purification or self-renunciation. Further, troubles, sorrows or hardships of life are also accepted by mystics quite silently and submissively.
