Abstract

Education and Literacy stand poles apart, as literacy can be attained by making people read and write, but Education or educating someone takes a lot of effort to reach the desired goal. Education is not just making student read, write and speak, but in a wider sense education is life itself. Indian Education system has seen ups and downs with the history of foreign invasion from the Mughal age to the British colonial regime. The Macaulay’s minutes on Indian education and the later implementation of British Colonial Education Policy, changed the Indian scenario of Education. “Andaman & Nicobar Islands have a history of British occupation and Education in these Islands before Independence was over looked by the Britishers. Soon after independence and with the establishment of Andaman & Nicobar Administration, School Education came under the control of Andaman & Nicobar Administration”. (S. Rao 26)
